Another study by Falavarjani et al. reported findings of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in the retina of preterm born children, with the main purpose of describing the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) in these subjects.
Among the former preterm infants, 43% demonstrated an absence of foveal depression associated with preserved inner retinal layers on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), and persistent spider-web like central foveal capillary network on OCTA.
As a result, this study suggested OCTA as a novel non-invasive method for retinal visualization of vessels in high-risk infants (96).
